Jerome has officially tasted food(milk) for the first time! It appears that he no longer has to rely solely on his IV for nutrition, although he can only handle about a table spoon of milk every 6 hours or so, if that. Unfortunaltely he can't breastfeed yet because they need to control exactly how much he takes in. But atleast he is eating somehow. It hasn't always gone well. Just yesterday we found bile-vomit on his blankets again, indicating that his intestines regressed a bit, blocking the passage and sending the liver's bile overflowing up into his little stomach. Then they have to run a nasogastric tube up his nose and down his throat to pull the bile out and relieve the pressure. It is horrible watching them do these things, but we know its necessary. Between that and the enemas, I don't know which Jerome hates more. He is going to be one tough kid. Even if he won't have recollection of all this, I'll bet that he will be far less likely to cry over spilled milk. Unless, of course, that milk happens to be from his mother.
Duquesa is under the weather today, which is hard because we couldn't go to see baby until we had a doctor visit to determine that she or I didn't have a bug that Jerome could catch. The only doctor that would come check her out works with the local ambulance team, so our friend Fiorella convinced them it was an emergency. We had paramedics come to take her temp. He he. Probably the most exciting thing they got called to do this week. Anyhow, we determined that Duquesa will be fine with a little medication.
As you can see from the pictures, Jerome is getting bigger and cuter everyday. He absolutely loves it when we are allowed to visit and hold him. He studies us with wide, unblinking eyes, and every so often flashes us a baby smile. His risk of infection is still high, as it is connected with his use of the central IV. Its a catch 22. He needs it to survive, but it also brings great risk. This is why we are trying to get his intestines working asap, so that they can remove the IV. This is what we ask you to pray for still. Check back with this blog for more pictures and updates!
Thank you again for all support. It makes a world of difference.
Ciao for now...

I too hope that you all will be out of the hospital soon but for a more selfish reason, i'm sorry, it's so natural. I hope that Jerome can be out of the hospital by Oct. 3 because I want to hold that little mighty mouse of yours. He is so precious, I can't wait to hold him and love him. of course, I'm unbelievably excited to live with the amazing family that I have. love you and I will be praying every day for you all but especially for the IV sitch with young J.

You don't know me, but I know a friend of yours, Mary Hudak. Her mother was kind enough to forward prayer requests for little Jerome and the rest of your precious family.
I am honored to be praying for all of you all and have posted a photo of Duquesa and Jerome near our computer so we can pray for you all often.
We are from Washington state and are looking forward to the day when Jerome will be home in your household.
